What is the "Dark Mark"

The Dark Mark is a symbol used by Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters.  It looks like a skull with a snake coming out of the mouth in place of the tongue. As a spell it is cast by a Death Eater, whenever he or she has murdered someone. Dark Marks are also branded on the left forearm of the closest followers of Voldemort. The mark serves as a connection between Voldemort and each who bears it, he can summon them by touching his mark, causing it and those of his followers to burn and change colour. Death Eaters can summon Voldemort in the same fashion. Following Voldemort's ultimate defeat, the Dark Marks on his Death Eaters fade into a scar "similar" to Harry's. In the books, the Dark mark is described as green. However, in the films, it was only green at the Quidditch world cup. In all other film appearances it has been grey.

Dobby

In every movie there is this one character that everyone falls in love with and in this movie it just so happens to be the best house elf in all of the Wizarding World! Dobby is the best friend you can ever have. What kind of friend will risk his life to save you? Dobby has saved Harry from many things and then ultimately giving up his life while helping Harry escape. Dobby is killed by Bellatrix Lestrange when she throws a dagger at him at the Malfoy Family Estate, when Dobby rescues Harry and company for the final time. Dobby, unlike other house-elves, wanted to be a free elf, free of the magical slavery that binds this race to their wizarding families. In all of the books he is my favorite character. He is everything you can want in a friend, even if he might kill you in the process.

Lord Voldemort

What would you do if you found out that there was someone much more powerful than you? Would you kill him or just leave him alone? The Dark Lord chose the bad choice. Tom Marvolo Riddle was discovered in an orphanage by Albus Dumbledore. Tom was a special kid. He is the  last descendant of wizard Salazar Slytherin, one of the four founders of Hogwarts. Rowling described Voldemort as "the most evil wizard for hundreds and hundreds of years". His main goal in life is to kill Harry Potter. When he first tried to do this when Harry was very young, the Avada Kedvra curse didn't work. Instead it transferred some of Voldemort's powers over into Harry. When he did this, the curse left Harry with a scar in the shape of a lightning bolt and he is known as "The Boy Who Lived". Tom Marvolo Riddle didn't like his name due to the fact that one of his parents was a muggle. So he decided to change his name to Lord Voldemort. In the Chamber of Secrets he reveals by saying " I Am Lord Voldemort" which contains all of the letters used in Tom Marvolo Riddle. Eventually he is killed by Harry and that brings the end to his reign.

Luna Lovegood

Luna Lovegood is part of the Raven Claw house and is quite weird. She likes to sleep with her shoes on because she sleep walks throughout the castle at night. She can also see Thestrals because she has seen death. Her father is the writer of the quibbler. Her mother died when she was 9 because she was experimenting with some spells and they just went wrong. Luna is socially isolated at school, but she appears to care little for what others think. In the Order of the Phoniex she and her father are the little few that seem to think that Harry is innocent. Harry later invites Luna to Slughorn's Christmas party. She also does the Quidditch commentary for Gryffindor's game against Hufflepuff, a scene that Rowling particularly enjoyed writing, calling it "blinding inspiration" After Harry and Ginny get married, they name their daughter "Lily Luna", after Luna. She was crazy, yet brilliant in their time of need. She came through for them in ways no one could.

Neville Longbottom

In every place there is a shy kid that everyone thinks will amount to nothing but this kid proved them all wrong. Neville Longbottom lives with his grandmother and attends Hogwarts. He is in Gryffindor and has helped earn the house points. Neville is also highly gifted in Herbology. He is often teased a lot by Malfoy and his crew. His parents, Frank and Alice Longbottom, were prominent Aurors and Order of the Phoenix members until they were tortured and permanently incapacitated by a group of Death Eaters led by Bellatrix Lestrange; Neville was subsequently raised by his paternal grandmother, Augusta. Neville plays a minor role in the first four books, but Rowling wanted him to perform an act of bravery in Philosopher's Stone, in which Neville "finds true moral courage in standing up to his closest friends — the people who are on his side" towards the climax. He easily could have become the chosen one instead of Harry but Voldemort attacked Harry instead. He also takes the role of rebuilding Dumbledore's Army during his last year while Harry is off trying to defeat Voldemort. Neville also destroys Nagini during the Battle of Hogwarts, thus destroying the final Horcrux. In the epilogue, he returns as a Herbology teacher at Hogwarts due to his love for the subject. He also marries Hannah Abbott, who then became the new landlady of the Leaky Cauldron. They live right above it and he is considered to be a true friend  and hero to all at Hogwarts.

Seamus Finnigan

Everybody loves a boy with an accent, and boy does this kid have one. Seamus has been a friend to Harry and his crew throughout the years. They met when they first came to Hogwarts. He was placed in Gryffindor his first year. He is a huge Quidditch fan and supports the Kenmare Kestrels, and is best friends with housemate Dean Thomas. His mother is a witch and his father a Muggle, who only found out his wife's secret after their marriage; according to Seamus, it was "a bit of a nasty shock for him when he found out." He is of Irish decent and is easily influenced by his parents. In the Order of the Phoenix, he almost didn't return and he got into a heated argument with Harry about what the Daily Prophet's saying about him but then comes to apologize.

Draco Malfoy

Everybody loves a bad boy. Well Hogwarts has plenty of them. One particular bad boy is snotty rich pure-blood Draco. Draco is the son of Lucius and Narissa Malfoy. They are both loyal death eaters and supporters of the Dark Lord. In the book the Half-Blood Prince, Draco becomes a Death Eater and has to kill Dumbledore but doesn't have the courage to do so, so Snape kills him in order to fulfill the request due to the fact that he made an unbreakable vow. Draco thinks poorly of his fellow classmates. He feels that the school should be kept all pure-blood and not with mud-blood. At the end of the series he marries Astoria Greengrass and they have a son named Scorpius. He is truly a Bad Boy.

Nearly Headless Nick

Out of all of the ghosts that roam the castle of Hogwarts the most famously known ghost is Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington often referred to as Nearly Headless Nick. Now you may ask how can you be nearly headless? Well half of his head is cut off while the other half is still attached. Nick, is the Gryffindor House ghost who in life was sentenced to death by beheading after a teeth-straightening spell went awry on Lady Grieve. His greatest wish is to become a member of the Headless Hunt, as mentioned in the second book. However, he is excluded due to the fact that he is not actually headless and would not be able to fully participate in the activities. In the Chamber of Secrets he was petrified by the Basilisk but was later recovered and healed. He has become one of Harry's good friends throughout the books and his life at Hogwarts. He is loved by all and it will remain that way for all of eternity.

Severus Snape

Long awaiting for his job as Defense Against The Dark Arts teacher, Severus Snape is a very confusing character. You may think he is good yet you may also think he is bad you won't know until you see the last Harry Potter movie. He is portrayed as a cold hearted, big jerk teacher that everyone hates but is that really what he is? When he attended Hogwarts he was in love with Lily Evans which is Harry's mothers but ridiculed by James Potter, Harry's dad. Dumbledore trusts him with his life yet he is also a Death Eater who are Voldemort's followers. What exactly is this man we call Snape. He eventually gets out of his Potions job and gets transfered to teach Defense Against The Dark Arts, the job he has been after for years and then at the end of the series Headmaster of Hogwarts. Yet he is killed in the battle of Hogwarts just before he dies he tells Harry that is only mission has been to protect him because he vowed it for Lily. His love for Lily extended to the protection of her orphan son Harry. So it turns out that Snape is the greatest double-agent ever! I hope this changes your opinion of Severus Snape and that you see he is really the best good guy in the book and not a Death Eater who is after to kill Harry because if he was he would have done it by now.

Ginny Weasley

Having to deal with a an older brother is hard but having to deal with 6 older brothers is impossible. Ginny Weasley is the youngest of the 7 Weasley children. She is a year younger than Harry, Ron and Hermione. She is first featured in the Chamber of Secrets and has a huge crush on Harry. She was also captured by Lord Voldemort during her first year but was rescued by Harry. She also attends the Yule Ball with Neville Longbottom. Ginny was also replaced as the Seeker temporarily while Harry was banned by Umbridge. She also joins Dumbledore's Army. She has dated Michael Corner, Dean Thomas and then eventually her future husband Harry Potter. She is a very strong and powerful witch. In the end she and Harry get married and have three children and live happily ever after.

Fred and George Weasley

The twins of Harry Potter have become world wide favorites. These twins are so funny and mischievous they will have you laughing all the way home. Fred and George are identical twins and the 3 and 4 children of the Weasley family. They are known as the school's clowns and pranksters. They served as Beaters for the Gryffindor Quidditch team. They are good friends with Harry and Hermione. In the Goblet of Fire they begin selling magical goods under the name of  "Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes," They later own their own joke store and become very popular in Diagon Alley. In Deathly Hallows George gets his ear blown off by Snape while trying to help transport Harry to the safe house. In the battle of Hogwarts Fred dies and George is deeply saddened by it. George marries Angelina and have two children, Fred and Roxanne.

Hermione Granger

Hermione Granger, best known as "The Brains" of the group is a very special character. Without Hermione, Harry and Ron wouldn't have gotten very far in trying to figure out the mysterious things that happen at Hogwarts. Hermione is a muggle born child and a mud-blut to Draco. At times Hermione tends to be bossy and uptight but it is all in good nature. Her friendship with Harry and Ron is a special one. They met on their first night at Hogwarts and have been friends ever since. Throughout the course of their friendship they have faced many trials of faith. They have been through everything together like loosing loved ones, romances, and near death fatalities. At the end of the series she marries Ron and they have two children named Rose and Hugo. Without Hermione there would have been a big empty spot in the films.

Ronald Weasley

Many of you know Ron Weasley as Harry Potter's loyal sidekick but he is more than just that. He has played a vital role throughout the Harry Potter series. He has been a friend that Harry could count on. Ron comes from a poor but loving family and is the sixth child out of seven Weasley children. He has five older brothers and one younger sister who Harry marries at the end of the series. Ron has a big fear of spiders and shows it throughout the series. He shows a very fond interest in Hermione Granger and ends up marrying her and they have two children, Rose and Hugo. He is fun and immature that is why is such a popular character. He makes the situation a little more better than what is was due to his personality. His mother has stated that she wanted to have a girl but got him instead and from that and many other obstacles in his way he has become a man.

The Super Long Potter, Weasley, and Granger Family Tree

You all thought that Harry, Ron and Hermione were all just friends but deep down they are all related to each other.  The thing is that they all related to the Black family. From the Black family tree came Cedrella, Lucretia Black. Cedrella married Septimus Weasley and they bore Bilius Weasley and Arthur Weasley while Lucretia married Ignatius Prewett who is related to Male Prewett who married Mrs. Prewett and they bore Molly, Gideon, and Fabian Prewett. Molly Prewett and Arthrur Weasley got married and bore Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred, George, Ron and Ginny Weasley. Bill got married to Fleur Delacour and they have three children. Then Charlie Weasley didn't marry. Percy marries a girl named Audrey and they have two girls. Fred dies in the battle of Hogwarts. George marries Angelina Johnson and they have two children naming the boy after his late twin brother Fred. Ron marries Hermione Granger and they have two children Rose and Hugo. Ginny ends up marrying Harry Potter and they have three children named: James Potter after his late father, Albus Severus Potter after the two greatest headmasters at Hogwarts who died trying to help save Harry, and Lily Potter named after his late mother. If you see all of these characters are related to each other in the end of the books. The detailed family tree below will help explain what I just wrote.

Harry Potter

Harry Potter is an orphan boy who finds out he is a wizard on his 11th birthday by the gatekeeper at Hogwarts named Hagrid. When Harry gets to Hogwarts he meets Ron Weasley who will become his best friend and Draco Malfoy who will become a very bad enemy. Harry's parents were killed by a dark wizard known as Voldemort. When Voldemort tried to kill Harry he couldn't because of the spell his mother put on him. So when Voldemort tried using an unforgivable curse half of his powers and character traits were sent into Harry. The reason Voldemort wants to kill Harry is because he knows that Harry will be a great wizard someday. While at Hogwarts him and Ron become friends with Hermione Granger. Through the years Harry, Ron, and Hermione have been very close going through many trials and almost getting killed in the process of most of them. Ron's family has been like a family to Harry since he is an orphan. Ron's brothers; Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred, and George have been good friends to him along with their sister Ginny whom Harry marries in the end. Harry knows that in the end it will all come down to one wizard left so he sets out on a journey to collect the horcruxes in order to kill Voldemort. All is on the line for this teenage orphan and he knows it.

Harry Potter!

As you all know last night was the premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1. Of course it was amazing because that's what David Yates does, Amazing. This feature film showed the first part of Harry's hard and difficult journey to destroy Lord Voldemort and restore peace in the wizarding world. Although Harry has a tough task we know it will end in Greatness!
